Amber Waves boasts "all you can eat...
Amber Waves boasts "all you can eat prime rib and king crab" -- but I cannot even write about my "all you can eat prime rib" experience because they had none! Literally fifteen minutes into our early evening visit at the restaurant (including seating time), they shut off the light at the prime rib station and all the staff manning that station disappeared. We initially thought nothing of it, assuming that they simply went to bring another piece, until another 15 minutes later, there was still no sight of any prime rib at that station. About three of us had to ask management until we FINALLY got a straight answer out of them -- they were out of prime rib. We got no apology from management, and no offer of compensation until we insisted on some sort of amends. After much discussion with management, they begrudgingly offered us a mere 4 dollars off our meal or a dessert. Throughout the entire process, we saw no sign of apology, no sign of regret. On the contrary, the manager seemed irritated that we even noticed the shortage! In addition, the manager prompted us to select a dessert that he specifically pointed out, was worth 6.50 on the menu. When they brought out the desserts, however, they were literally one half the size of the regular desserts we had seen being served to other tables! Wow. I see 3 blatant things wrong with this: 1. Had management known that they were running low on prime rib, they should have warned us so that we, as customers, could make a decision regarding whether or not we wanted to pay the 25 dollar price for all you can eat. If we had known that only 75% of our party would only get one measly piece of meat (with the other 25% receiving none), we probably would have opted to order a regular, more moderately priced meal. 2. Even if they did run out, we do not blame them. What I am upset about is the lack of courtesy -- even rudeness and disrespect, that we were shown. As a service based industry, these people should be striving to maintain their customer relations, not burning bridges. 3. We were LIED to. If the manager was going to insist that the dessert was worth 6.50, he should have given us a dessert that was worth 6.50, not something the size of a twinkie with a little bit of whipped cream squirted on top. Now don't get me wrong. I am not being a stickler about the "few dollars" that we were "cheated" out of. It's the principle of it all. Overall, do not go to this restaurant if you are looking for quality or quantity. In fact, do not go to this restaurant if you are looking for a pleasant dining experience with friendly, professional staff. Your 32 dollars (after tax and tip) would be much better spent buying loads of chicken McNuggets and fries at McDonalds. At least at McD's, they love to make you smile -- which is far more than I can say for Amber Waves.
